The Baptist Medical Library recently received an award from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine to fund a unique project in support of consumers who wish to advocate for their own health. The website features tutorials (in English and Spanish) that promote healthy living. Video topics were chosen by Saint Thomas Health physicians from their patients' most frequently diagnosed medical conditions. The interactive tutorials use animation, illustrations and text to explain diseases, treatment and medical prodecures in everyday language. The user can either read the material or listen to the video's narrator.

The Medical Library supports the mission of Baptist Hospital, its staff and those affiliated with the Saint Thomas Health system. We participate in outreach projects to assist those who lack the resources to meet their information needs.

The Baptist Medical Library offers a variety of services. The library supplies knowledge-based information to health care professionals so they can make evidence based diagnosis and treatment decisions to provide the highest level of patient care.  Information is provided for Baptist personnel who need it to perform their work.  Employees attending educational programs may take advantage of the library’s resources to conduct their own research.

Members of the community are welcome to use the library's resources at no charge. We provide journals, books and computer resources to help individuals answer their health-related questions. Because every person and situation is unique, the general information we provide cannot subsitute for the diagnosis and medical advice of your doctor. A Baptist physician who has examined you and knows your medical history is the best person to provide that information.

The staff will perform searches for library users or consult with library users conducting their own searches.  Our librarian is happy to answer questions received via phone, e-mail, fax or visit.  The Baptist Hospital Medical Library maintains a clinical and consumer health collection of books, journals and a variety of electronic resources.

The Andrew Potanin Self-Help Library is a collection of materials covering such topics as Christian theology, grief, stress, nutrition and alternative medicine. Materials that are not part of the library's collection are obtained through inter-library loan from other libraries across the country.
